In the late 19th century, Spindlewood was home to a Clockmaker. A master of his craft, his work lauded far across the seas.  Distraught after the untimely death of his daughter, Abraham Reed sets about capturing her image in clockwork, building a young girl so unquestionably real that even he is unable to fathom her making. However, upon winding her, Abraham realizes he has created something more than a machine. Constance, as he names her, can think…  Terrified of being discovered, Abraham gives Constance one rule; to remain hidden from the outside world. But the young creation, full of child-like curiosity and frustrated with her limited existence, quickly forms other plans. The story unfolds as the sleepy town of Spindlewood, unaware of Constance's secret, accepts her and welcomes her. However, when the truth is discovered, the town has to reckon with whether they can look past Constance's differences and accept her for who she really is.

WHAT IS CONSERVATORY REP?

Conservatory Rep, the students’ final capstone project, are self-produced productions. We gave the students a director, a space and two hundred dollars.  They had to do everything else.

Actors must get people to see their work in order to build their career. It is often necessary for a group of artists to get together and produce their own show. This is a way for their work to be seen by agents, casting directors and other industry professionals. We want to empower our graduates to produce their own work, so we have challenged them to do that here in the Conservatory Rep.

They borrowed, built, and created everything you see on the stage. They collaborated with early career designers who are all looking to introduce their work to the industry. We want our students to know that they don’t have to wait for someone to give them permission to create.
