Bio: Cynthia Reifler Flores is a professional mariachi performer who learned her craft in the traditional, apprenticeship manner during the 1980s. She has taught at mariachi workshops throughout the United States and has been sought as an adjudicator for mariachi performance and competition. Flores was the founding director of the mariachi program at California State University-Los Angeles in 2008 and still directs their Mariachi Aguila de Oro and teaches other mariachi related classes there. She has directed and taught mariachi in many communities throughout California and has directed the mariachi ensembles at University of California, Riverside since 2016. Cynthia performed with the Grammy award-winning Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea from 2004-2005, but she is best known for her work as Acting Director and first violinist in Mariachi Reyna de Los Ángeles, the first all-female show mariachi in the United States of international importance, of which she was an original member. [1994-2004] Cynthia is the musical arranger for ¨American Mariachi” by José Cruz González, which she has also musically directed throughout the United States, most recently at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and the Cleveland Play House. She will be musically directing the show in Santa Maria and Solvang, California over the summer of 2023.
