Teaching Philosophy

Growth through practice. This has always been the method that has helped me learn and grow through the time spent in shops and on stages. Technical theatre is, in its nature, a hands-on experience in all aspects. Those who work in technical theatre gain experience through mostly hands-on instruction, in a style that very much follows the idea of ‘learn-by-doing.’ Jumping to into large-scale builds and immediately collaborating with those who wish to build up your skills and watch you grow and succeed gives a great groundwork to build off as burgeoning technicians start their careers.

As an instructor, I hope to provide students with the support and guidance to decide their paths forward and the tools to pursue that path. I believe that students should leave a shop every feeling proud of both the work they have accomplished and the growth they have achieved, and to come in each day looking forward to the growth and experience they will gain in their pursuit.
